- WA State Competition - 4th Place
Description:
NHD is a national level research competition. The 2019-2020 theme was
"Breaking Barriers," where we had to choose a specific event or person
in history that broke a barrier. I did my project on gender equality in
the Olympics and focused on the 1928 Olympics and Betty Robinson, who
won the first ever women's olympic event (track and field - 100 m).
For the "Lasting Impact" section of the project, I got the experience of
a life-time: interviewing Ali Aguilar, my favorite softball player, about
the coming 2020 Olympics.
Accomplishments:
- Honorable Mention
Description:
Exploravision is another national level competition I did in 8th grade.
For the competition, pairs/groups of competitors research any science or
medical topic and come up with a method to better address the issue. The final
product is an 11-page essay, but for my science class, we also had to present
our project to the class. My partner and I did our project on ACL tears; since
the topic is so complex, our research focused on how to make better knee braces.
The competition is across Canada and the US, and sponsored by Toshiba.
